Our Squirrel Monkeys

In the diverse tapestry of the ONCA Sanctuary, the Saimiri Boliviensis, or Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys, hold a special place. Our group of 12 individuals exemplifies the remarkable inter-species dynamics that can occur in carefully managed conservation environments.In the wild, Squirrel Monkeys naturally follow groups of Capuchin Monkeys as a strategy for predator defense. Mirroring this natural behavior, we have nurtured a harmonious coexistence between our Squirrel and Capuchin Monkeys. This unique interaction not only enhances their social environment but also offers an extraordinary opportunity to observe and understand their interspecies dynamics.
A noteworthy aspect of our conservation efforts has been integrating solitary wild males who lacked a group. These lone individuals have successfully adopted our group, forming bonds with both the Squirrel and Capuchin Monkeys. This integration has enriched the social structure of our primate community and contributed to the overall well-being of these animals.
Our dedication to creating a natural and thriving environment for the Saimiri Boliviensis extends beyond providing a sanctuary.
